Description
The saxophone has a body made of brass, but it is played with a single reed (like the clarinet), which classifies it as a woodwind instrument.
Beginners should be at least 10 years of age due to hand size and the weight of the instrument.
The are eight different sizes of saxophones, with the most commonly used being the soprano, alto, tenor and bass saxophone. We start learning on the alto saxophone.
Previous experience on recorder, clarinet or flute is useful preparation for learning the saxophone due to overlap in fingerings.
